Today, I’m going to introduce you to the disaster recovery plan, which is designed to recover from the effects of COVID-19 on Lake Park. Slide 2 The two entities developed the disaster management plan for the healthcare sector and Lake Park in response to the COVID-19 situation. It is based on the MAP-IT model and considers goals from the Healthy People 2030 initiative, stakeholder involvement, decreased disparities, and increased access to services, among other factors. The plan responds to the impact of the pandemic and helps to build resilience in the community by implementing a range of measures, including communication and collaboration. This presentation highlights some of the recovery strategies of Lake Park. Slide 3 Scenario tough challenge during the pandemic due to COVID-19. This pandemic has identified several gaps in the health care system in the region, and has exacerbated social and economic inequities (Capella University, n.d.). The statistics show that 1/4 of the population is living below the poverty line, and the median income per household is estimated at approximately $58,000. Delayed access to medical services is one of the most prevalent issues that may occur because of inadequate healthcare resources and uninsured people. Also, education is another sector that suffers from disparities since 84% of the population completed their secondary education, but only 18.5% of them had higher education. However, there has been no improvement in economic status due to the pandemic because the median income dropped to $37,476, and one out of every four people is poor (Capella University, n.d.). In order to deal with such issues, the disaster recovery plan uses the MAP-IT model for coordination with the goals of Healthy People 2020. Slide 4 Determinants of Health The COVID-19 pandemic had a massive impact on the health and wellness of Lake Park’s community. There were a large number of people who were not able to access good medical care in those areas. Most difficulties arose in regard to people who belonged to the lower socioeconomic strata and those without insurance. Cultural Barriers: Ethnicities, languages, and religion are examples of cultural factors that affect health status in Lake Park. The demographics in the park consist of 55% White, 35% Black, 5% Hispanic, and 3% multiracial (Capella University, n.d.). Half of the population that is above 25 years has completed high school, and 20% have attained a bachelor’s degree and above. These cultural factors affect people’s attitude towards health and disease and their interaction with health care providers. Social Barriers: The provision of healthcare in Lake Park depends largely on the extent of community relations, level of education, and employment. People with low social networks have greater stress due to difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities (Capella University, n.d.). There exists a clear relationship between education and health literacy and the ability to prevent illnesses. This is evident from the health statistics of the population, in which 84% have high school diplomas while 18.5% aged 25 years and above have college diplomas. Economic Barriers: Lake Park’s residents face many financial issues based on the given situation. The mean household income for the families is $37,476, and approximately one in every four (23%) people live below the poverty line (Capella University, n.d.). Due to financial constraints, many people are unable to obtain any medical care or even meet their needs. There are 12.5% uninsured citizens, which causes numerous difficulties in getting help and treatment. COVID-19 pandemic complicates the situation. Slide 5 Interrelationships Among Determinants In addition to these, there are several aspects that are interconnected in Lake Park that have an effect on each other, which create further problems. With no money to pay for it, the situation is even worse in terms of access to health care services and education, leading to health issues, poverty, and fewer opportunities. The attitude of the people towards illness and treatment in emergencies is influenced by the cultural background. Moreover, social networks are also necessary in assisting people in times of trouble and crisis recovery. The process of community recovery is rather complicated because of the lack of funds (Gallagher et al., 2023). All these issues need a multi-level approach to solve health and safety-related concerns. Slide 6 Proposed Disaster Plan & Disparities COVID-19 virus has highlighted the gaps in Lake Park, GA’s health care system and its response to the health crisis. This means that there is an urgent need to come up with a disaster recovery plan (DRP). Use of the MAP-IT tool aligns with the goals of Healthy People 2030 and can be used to guide needs assessment, planning, and monitoring the process of implementation (ACHA, 2020). The MAP-IT approach is the basis for the disaster recovery plan in Lake Park. This is done by following the following 5 steps: Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, and Track. Mobilize: A partnership of health practitioners, community leaders, and members of the community is formed to identify the health needs of the community (ACHA, 2020). The partnership represents the participatory approach that is reflected in the case scenario. Assess: This examination will involve looking at the challenges faced because of these challenges, as well as the weaknesses of these problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other health determinants such as access to healthcare and living conditions. This will be addressed so that the issues can be addressed from a cultural, social, and economic perspective, as is being done in the case of Lake Park. Strategies associated with the planning phase are related to social justice and cultural sensitivity (ACHA, 2020). Removal of all barriers that act as barriers to accessing health care services is the main objective of the planning phase. Implementation: Evidence-based strategies to address the challenge of getting more vaccines will be implemented, along with strategies for a healthy lifestyle and improving health facilities (ACHA, 2020).
